The Dance Works

It’s important for students to bide by a dress code policy for the following reasons:

•    A neat and tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness and respect for students, teacher, and the art of dance.

•    Teachers must be able to see the dancer's body outline clearly     in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.


•    Hair must be properly secured and tied up off of the face and     neck for all styles of dance and in a bun for all Ballet Classes.

•    Jewelry must not be loose or dangling.


•    Gum chewing is not permitted in class or anywhere in the studios. Chewing gum poses a choking risk and is considered disrespectful.

•    No loose fitting pants, blue jeans or t-shirts are to be worn in class (they are not dance attire).


•    No costumes are allowed in class unless a dress up day is announced by the individual teacher.


•    All students travelling to and from the studio must be dressed appropriately. No dance gear is to be worn whilst travelling on Public transport.


•    Shoes must be worn when walking around the studio and when leaving the studios.


Primary- Grade 3 Ballet

Girls:     Pink leotard and socks or tights, pink leather ballet shoes,
Pink dance skirts are allowed.

Boys: Black or White solid color T-shirt and black dance pants or sweatpants, black leather ballet shoes.

NO BARE LEGS and LONG HAIR MUST BE SECURELY TIED UP – Ponytails are allowed.

Classical Ballet Grade 3 and Up

Girls 5-12: Black Mauve or pink leotard, pink tights, and pink leather ballet slippers. Short dance skirts to match colour of the leotard are permitted. A black character skirt and character shoes is needed for grade 3 and above.

Girls Teen/Adult:   Any Black solid color leotard, pink tights and pink leather ballet slippers.   A Black chiffon skirt is to be worn for class.

Men/Boys:Black tights or dance pants, black or white solid color T-shirt, and                 black leather ballet slippers. 

NO BARE LEGS and LONG HAIR MUST BE SECURELY TIED UP - No Ponytails! 

Hip Hop

Girls: Any Purple black or mauve leotard or tight fitting top, tights or jazz pants, black jazz shoes or black jazz sneakers.

Men/Boys:Black or White solid color T-shirt and black dance pants or sweatpants, black jazz shoes or black jazz sneakers. 

NO BARE LEGS and LONG HAIR MUST BE SECURELY TIED UP – Ponytails are allowed.
No Bare Midriffs. Blue jeans are not allowed.

Jazz

Girls 5-12:Any purple mauve white or black leotard or tight fitting top, tights or jazz pants,  tan jazz shoes. 

Girls Teen/Adults: Black, Purple, Mauve, White leotard or tight fitting top, tights or jazz pants, black or Tan jazz shoes.

Men/Boys: Any purple black or white T-shirt and black dance pants or sweatpants, tan jazz shoes.

NO BARE LEGS and LONG HAIR MUST BE SECURELY TIED UP – Ponytails are allowed. 
Jazz Sneakers are not allowed for the recital. No Bare Midriffs.

Lyrical/Contemporary / Modern

Girls: Black, mauve or purple solid color leotard and footless or transitional tights.  Jazz pants or dance skirts are allowed. 

Men/Boys: Black tights or dance pants, black or white solid color T-shirt. 
Students dance in bare feet or open modern sandals.                                    

NO BARE LEGS and LONG HAIR MUST BE SECURELY TIED UP – Ponytails are allowed.
No Bare Midriffs.

Tap

Girls:  Black, Mauve, purple, white leotard or tight fitting top, tights or jazz pants, Tan tap shoes up to level 4, black tap shoes level 4 & 5 dance skirts are allowed.   

Men/Boys: Black or white color T-shirt and black dance pants or sweatpants, black tap shoes. 

NO BARE LEGS and LONG HAIR MUST BE SECURELY TIED UP – Ponytails are allowed.
No Bare Midriffs.    Blue jeans are not allowed.

ZUMBA
Everyone: Any fitness or dance attire, aerobics sneakers or jazz/hip-hop sneakers.

Recommended: sweatband, small towel, and water bottle.
